clutch shaft seal: why do I need three of these
In the parts catalog they require three of these seals anyone know why? All the diagrams show only one.
Porsche 911 & Carrera Clutch & Flywheel - Page 7 915-301-139-00-M30 Throw-Out Lever Seal (sold per each), 911 (1974-77, 1 req.), 911 (1978-86, 3 req.), 911 Turbo (1976-77, 2 req.) |
I put 2 on the throw out arm (above and below where it attaches) and one on the lower part of the shaft shown in the diagram. I believe the 101 projects tells you there are supposed to be 2 on arm itself. When I took my trans out it only had 1 on the arm and the replacement trans I got only had 1 or maybe 0. it is really just to keep grime/dirt out of the shaft and both worked fine like that.

Same as mine........

Those are just dust/dirt seal. Two (2) will be just fine but they are not that expensive. So having an extra seal on top would be better IMHO. Tony |
one above the release fork in the bellhousing and the other two above and below the long release arm.

They can make it tough to catch the circlip. I had a real struggle with mine but eventually got it by using a socket and a persuader to seat the arm over the circlip groove.
