Windshield Install Prob

So I decided to use a Getty Design flush mount windshield frame in my 911 track car.

The fame, as received, appeared pretty good. It bonded into the opening nicely.

Now for the glass...not so good

It's hard to describe, but the section of frame next to the A pillar is the issue.

The bonding surface of the frame is not parallel with the glass, it is twisted outwards (see white dashed line in pic) so the glass is held 1/4" off the frame, all the way around.

Forcing the glass is not an option it will crack long before it sits down flush.

So now what!?! Any suggestions?

In fairness the fellow at Getty said - no prob, if it doesn't work cut it out and I'll send you another one, foc.

That cheered me up a bit.

But he had some good ideas so I will try and do a little surgery to see if I can make it work.

Fiberglass: the art of making a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

So I trimmed the glass mounting flange back to 3/4" (was 1 1/2). Glass fitted better but was still proud.

At the cut line the flange thickness was about 3/16" Plenty of material to grind a new angle, but what a mess.

I think it will work out OK. More grinding and clean up still to do. Then seal with resin and paint.
