3.2 Magnecor - Wrong Coil Wire Connector?
I don't know if I am missing something, but I am replacing my original wires with Magnecor 8.5's and upon disconnecting the coil wire from the coil, the connectors are not the same. It appears one is a "male" connector and one is a "female" connector? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

The Magnecor wire should fit into your 3.2 coil just fine. You should be good to go.

In the 2nd picture the old wire is to ths left and the new wire is to the right. As i think can be seen, the old wire has a solid metal center peice that would appear to enter into a hole on the coil to connect. The new Magnecor wire has a more standard receptor that would fit over a receptor with a solid center.
I did some searching online, but I am just trying to verify that the new wire will fit the coil (which may not be original) due to the vastly different appearance of the connector.

Call them
You can call magnacore direct and order the right wire and to the length you want. Very reasonable, and the ship out real fast. I have always had good service and support from them. I just order a two foot long center wire so I could reposition my coil and they came thru with flying colors.

I emailed Magnecor, as I really don't see how these connectors are compatible. Hopefully I am wrong and can be back on the road by Monday.

I am curious to see what you find out. I had the same exact problem a couple of months ago, and just left the one that went to the coil in there. But replaced the rest.

I just checked, and my Magnecor 8.5 coil wire connector looks the same. It fits and works just fine.

Go online and download the Magnacore product manual.
Look up the style you need, and call them on the phone and talk with them about it. For some reason I didnt have any luck with email. They are friendly and are willing to help you with your questions. But the one on the right looks like the Female plug I use on my MSD....I think it is wrong. I have no doubt it will fit but I dont think it is correct.

I did the same thing and have the unused new coil wire hanging around for 5 years. I don't see how it would work.

They are both male connectors, and dependent on contact on the outside. Doesn't matter if it is hollow, it only maters if there is some spring pressure pushing to the outside.
Empirically, the way to find out if it works would be to try it... |

BTW, In the old days I changed hundreds of these wires on a daily basis. The vast majority of coil wires look like the Magnecor.

I installed the new coil wire and hopefully will have it all together tonight to verify that despite their vastly different appearance, it works just the same. I also exchanged emails with Magnecor over the weekend and they agree that it works. Thanks to everybody for their responses and reassurance. I guess the rest of the guys holding onto oem coil wires should swap them out?

Okay... got it done. Used the new Magnecor coil wire and temporarily left off the coil "cover" to verify that there was no obvious signs of it not being fully connected. The car ran slightly better, but seemed a little down on power (as it was prior to the new wires).
Anybody have an opinion as to whether a distributor having too much vertical play could cause slight loss in power? About a month ago I installed a new cap and rotor (off-brand, but quality replacements are in the mail) and the new cap seems to have only wear on the absolute bottom of the elements for each cylinder inside the cap. Just doesn't have the punch it used to in lower RPM's.
