Price to "recondition" Fuchs?
 

What can I expect to pay on a recondition on some 1988's. No damage, just dull from age.

600ish plus shipping

I recently paid 200/ea for 16x6 Fuchs to convert to anodized finish like 15x6, plus black paint in webs. This was at Wheel Enhancement. Took about 3 weeks. I like shiny polished look more, but don't wanna polish DD wheels. Anodized only needs occasional wax.

From another post, it looks like your thinking of buying an '88 carrera - My advice would be to hold off on putting $$$ into the wheels until you explore options. As you get to know these cars better, you'll find that there were a lot of wheels offered as standard equipment and that some are more desirable than others due to both limited tire availability with 15" diameter wheels and the way that wider 16x7 front and 16x8 (or 16x9) rear wheels fill out the wheel wells. There are also some really nice 17" diameter replica wheels available that open up lots of modern tire avenues.

I'd start by getting the car sorted out, better understanding the "playing field" and then upgrading/etc.

Wheel Enhancement is the top end price wise.

The two typically recommended polishers are Harvey Weidmann and Al Reed.

I'll leave it up to your imagination on my opinion on WE.

Plenty of DIY alternatives to shipping your wheels out to have them refinished. I like Darrin's advice. Hold off for a while and see what you can do.

I recently used scotch brite to finish mine and was a regular on these two threads for a while. there's lots more here to consider. Search is your friend.

I highly recommend Weidman's. They are the place to refinish Fuchs wheels. I don't remember what I paid, but I think it was far less than $600. Low $400s maybe? It was a 2 or so years ago.

I wanted the wheels refinished to factory original color. I checked a couple local places, but they couldn't re-anodize the wheels, & I wasn't at all confident that the black would be "right". So I shipped the wheels from OH to CA.

I am extremely pleased with how they look. Harvey was great. He spent a lot of time talking to me on the phone about Fuchs & the different options for refinishing.

If you want them done right, send them to Harvey Weidman.

From the fotos you shared on the other link, it looks like it has 16x6 up front and 16x7 in the rear -- gotta say that they (and the entire car) look to be in great shape -- you may be able to get them to 100% with some paint cleaner/wax and elbow grease.

Hope so... Gonna negotiate price later...
