'86 3.2 starting issues

Car sits up at the cottage where I start it and use it a few hundred miles/yr.

Started and ran fine ( except for needing a good German tune up) this year until the other day.

Turned the key and got a click and a hum/drone but no start. Drone seems to originate from the front of the car and you can feel the vibration on the top of the gas tank. Fuel pump, I assume. Multiple tries, no luck.

Poking around the front trunk, I notice a white cylindrical 6/7 pin connector up near the driver side hinge. Much of the insulation of the wires chewed off by mice.

Tried to get some electrical tape on the wires to prevent shorts if possible.

Also, checked battery connection and grounds etc.

A littled more wire jiggling and guess what - car fires right up.

Next day, a few more click/hums , then I jiggle the key it fires up , five tires in a row.

Jiglling the key may be a red herring and I know I've got to tackle the connector anyway.

Is that connector part of the starting circuit? It looks tough to get too, any tricks to that?

Am I missing somehting?

Insights/inputs appreciated

Could be your ignition switch. Do you have a digital volt meter? You'll need to check voltages at the starter.

An old Indian trick is to whack the solenoid with a non rebound hammer.....sometimes that is stuck.
