Thumbs down gone too far?

This is not intended to step on any toes...but I have to say this cars bodywork has gone too far. This is a Porsche, not a Honda!

I know what you mean K9Handler if it was a street car but I suspect it is a serious GT2 (GT3 ?) track car (or serious clone)going by the screw on wheel arches and the roll cage etc. I could be wrong though...

Race or Rice?

The fenders are true to the 934 as well as the GT2 (bolted or rivited in place) as is the rear wing.

The front spoiler/splitter is not any more or less radical than the GT2 or any other all out race car that the Factory has produced in the past twenty years, IMO.

I have seen and driven with this car in Solana Beach and it is quite awesome, once again, IMO.

This car is more-or-less a race car and at the track you will find many single purpose machines that sport loud colors (and exhausts!) as well as wild but purposeful wings, flares and spoilers.

This car should not be confused with certain street cars that offer no more than flashy colors, large wings and 5" diameter exhaust outlets. While some might think that this car might be too radical for the street, it would be right at home at any track.

Just my opinion, and for it and 25¢ you can get a free cup of coffee.

Best,

Kurt

I wish God had designed air so that the best shape for a race car was like, a 908 or something. Or a spyder or even a Cobra. but unfortunately the best shape for a race car is that of a BRICK.

I understand the track use, and it would be nice to see it run in person. I would just not go this far for a car that would see both street/track time. For that purpose, I think Jack's Black Beauty is on the mark!

I know what you mean Super...but the NASCAR boys run in some pretty slippery bricks!

Porsche Crest

The Chaparral 2J 'Hoovermobile' or 'Sucker' was a pretty FAST brick in 1970, as I recall! Noisy, too! Too FAST, and too radical ... so it was banned!

It is pretty obvious that the "Rice" rage has coppied some of its styling from the GT series racecars.

Unfortunately, most folks don't know what a GT racecar looks like. So when they see one they holler "rice".

Just to clear things up...I said it had gone to far and it was a porsche, and not a Honda. I don't think "Rice" is a good term, since I do like the style of the WRX, NSX, and the Eclipse...it's pretty much any Honda and the aftermarket BS they put on them. The main comment on this car was that it was a little too much for street use (thought this since there was no racing sponsorship, or number) and the bodywork was a little extreme. I do like the GT-2 and GT-3 cars, and the 16 Porsches that just ran at sears point!

I remember that car well, for a few reasons:
(If I remember right) It appeared to be a purpose built car with a full cage and racing seat/dash. I think it had the center lug wheels.
It had the entire GT2 body with racing tires. It looked like a real race car built solely for the track.
BUT..... what is up with the blue license plate? Was this car built from a 70's or early 80's 911? That part had me wondering.

I also remember thinking how good that car would look if I were driving it on the track at 150+ :-)

Totally disagree K9handler. That is a very nice looking, race ready 993.
I actually think that's one of the best looking 911s I saw on saturday.

I also took a pic of that car. You need to see if from other angles to really appreciate the styling.

You are correct Kurt...the car does look better from the back, but the tail is too much for street and I think this is a style I would use for pure track with some sponsorship and a few blondes in the pit.

That car has been on this board before. If I remember correctly is is full fiberglass on a pre-73 body. Gutted, stripped and made it as fast as it looks. I couldn't find pics of the motor but here are some more.

Why do the wheels/tyres look like they aren't filling the arches????

I really do wonder what makes rice or not - as I watched a Mitsubishi 3000GT (can't remember what they are called in the US) drive past last night with a huuuuuge biplane rear wing, I thought "rice", then thought of a 993 with a GT2 spoiler (and I have seen those). Why is one less boy racer than the other?

Cameron: My take on it is that one has "go" for the "show" while the other is just "show" with no "go". If the car pictured above had a stock 2.7 motor I would say that the car would qualify as "rice".

The phrase you used, "boy racer", was the term my buddies and I used when we were teenagers for cars with fake scoops, non-fuctional spoilers and weak motors.

Best,

Kurt

I must say the trunk area is outstanding, that looks nice and functional. I agree, the wheels don't seem to fill up the arch like some I have seen. The car is a very well done and never thought this topic would make this subject turn "rice".

This car is mainly for the street. It's owner has built other wild 911s in the past, way before rice was born! The fit and finish is superb as are the wild custom carbon fiber door panels. The motor is a semi built 3.3 turbo that puts out about 420 hp. more than enough for a 2300 lb car. The wheels are small for the arches, but otherwise this personal statement really stands out in any crowd!
