Has anyone run a trombone cooler WITH a fender mounted radiator cooler

Ok assuming there is enough room to mount both pieces of hardware, and of course no interference with the tire or any other piece of equipment (horns), has anyone run both the factory trombone cooler and a front fender mounted radiator style cooler with the auxiliary fan?

I was thinking that if the car could accommodate both pieces of hardware you would have more surface area in which to radiate heat and therefore have potentially cooler oil temperatures in your car.

What are your thoughts on this prospect thanks

Multiple choice
A. You are over thinking this
B. Step away from the bong now
C. You're joking

But seriously how would you even hook all that up assuming there was enough room (there isn't)? Less is more.

Likely answer (A)

Definitely not (B). Air Force officers regularly tested for illegal substances

The reason I was thinking of doing it that way was by having additional surface area it may simply help the cooling. If I relocate the horns There actually is enough room in my set up with the auxiliary fan.

I likely will remove the trombone cooler, but was just curious if anybody had retained the trombone with the fender mounted cooler. There are several pelicans that have retained a trombone cooler and put a front (chin) valence mounted cooler.

good answer. But I still think the easiest option is just put in the cooler+fan and remove the trombone. Keeping the trombone in may extend the time before the fan comes on but it does not add x times additional cooling efficiency overall. If your car was still getting too hot after a proper cooler+fan install then there are problems elsewhere to be corrected.

I suppose you could leave the trombone and fit a cooler on the left side, but I'd suggest you put a carrera cooler on the right anyway, since it sounds like you are trying to get extra cooling.

On my 83 SF with 3.6 out of a 964, I run dual coolers, both have fans.

MAYBE, if they mounted the radiator type downstream, like in the front or other fender well. But NOT together.

2 problems
1.
In parallel you may get more flow into the trombone than the rad type, if the trombone has less resistance it will take most of the oil. To solve you need a balancing valve.
2.
In series you may create a very high pressure drop which may open the thermostat pressure relief which will bypass both coolers.

Don't mess around go straight for ERP wide mouth carrera cooler and be done and rest easy....unless you have a monster motor then do their dual setup. Good stuff.

Just installed my Carrera cooler purchased from a Pelican. Trombone is ... for sale, if anyone wants it. No way I'd run two. If you want more cooling from the oil lines, look at Elephant's finned lines.

The cooler is half the program. The other half is directing air to the cooler. Search for "valence ducting" or "Oil cooler ducting".

Elephant's cooler and finned lines are plenty to keep the oil cool.

Why re-invent the wheel?
