Question Why does.....???

Why do the ignition wires for a 911SC have the stainless braid on them? Is it to prevent radio interference or something else?
Actually on my car, the stainless braid made an excellent ground for the failed coil wire to throw "lightning bolts" toward! Didn't run too well, but made a great fireworks show!

My new replacements did not have the braids. Lose 'em.

Stainless braid is wonderful. The 12v+ wire going to the resistor before the coil on my 47 Ford (with 302 V8) did the same thing, somehow the wire managed to get caught up in some braiding I had on the fuel line and what a show that produced not to mention seconds away from a fire (12v finding its ground on a fuel line) not good. I got rid of the rest of the flashy braiding I had on the rest of the engine hoses soon after. The braiding on the wires I believe is for supression purposes....TargaEuro

I believe the braiding was for suppression purposes, but also to cure the exploding air box problem. They thought the explosions might be caused by cross firing. They were wrong.

So, the braid serves little purpose now and can only provide an excellent ground for bad wires to use, as you have observed. My car has braidless wires now.
