window motor - '87 vs '86 - what's different
Car is an '87 911 coupe.
I've read a bunch of posts on power window motor issues. On my 87, all of a sudden, the passenger window motor does nothing. I have the door apart and I've checked voltage to the motor and it seems to match what is on the working driver's side (12 volts to both motor terminals until the switch is actuated - then one side or the other drops to 0 volts. So, I think the motor just died with not warning or diminished performance - just wasn't working the next time I got in the car after parking it. Assuming I need to replace the motor, why is the right hand motor for an '87 $258 when it's only $95 for the 1971-86 right side coupe? Can I used the cheaper one? They sure look the same in the pictures. Any help would be appreciated. Carl |

Now I see that the electrical connector is on the opposite side of the motor on the '86. I'm sure the wire would reach, but I wonder if it would interfere with something else nearby.
I still don't think this is a motor issue - why would it just quit with no warning?? Is there some way for me to test it? Does my testing of the electric flow sound right - 12 volts to both terminals until the switch actuation makes one go to zero? Carl |

I'd look in the used parts classifieds section of this forum before you go buy a new one.
