No turn lights- 1970 T
1970 T. turn lights stopped working suddenly. Lights all function and flash when hazard switch is on. Parking lights work properly when activated. I have power at relay at pin 49 when ignition is on, but no turn signals. fuses are good. Any help would be appreciated. Brian

95% it's a ground problem. Early 911's are notorious for this. Many threads on this subject.

The grounds to the light housings should be good, as all the lights work when the emergency ( hazard) light switch is on.

Hazards working means relay and wiring is good. The suspect will be in the turn signal stalk and wiring. Poor or mis aligned contacts in the switch, loose or broken wiring from the lever to the light switch on the dash are what I'd be looking for.

Any way to check the turn signal switch to see if it's faulty ? Which wire carries power to the turn signal switch when the ignition is turned on ? The wire color codes on the diagram that I have don't match whats in my car...

To checki t properly you should remove it, or take a good look at it in place. Pull steering wheel, remove clamshell cover. Remove if you need to.
There are some really good theads on the turn signal stalks talking about contact alignment etc. turn signal switch quick fix pictures

I've read most of the threads. They mainly address problems with the headlights. Mine work fine. I can't find anything on repair of the switch in regards to turn contacts and wires. I have access to the switch. Not sure if I want to take it apart without some guidance. Thanks.

Page 3 post 48 has a picture of what I would assume your set up looks like.
Open it up to that point and take a look at what the switches are doing when you move the stalk up and down. Understanding how it functions can aid in your diagnostics. You should be able to trace the wires and identify what they go to as well by doing this. One should be left, one for right, a common hot and a ground. Identifying your wires will help to troubleshoot if they are not the correct colors as per your wiring diagram.

SO.......I put in a new turn signal switch, thinking that It was the problem. Sad to say that I still have no turn signal lights.
Hazard lights and parking lights work properly. None of the signal lights work when the switch is used. Any thoughts ?? |

I had exactly the same problem on my 1971T. They were working before the restoration and when I put it all back together only the flashers worked. I thought it was the stalk as I had replaced it. Turned out to be the power wire to the stalk loom was not connected properly.
I cannot remember exactly but it takes power from the light switch or the ingnition switch. These are the wires that come out of the loom half way down. It does not get power via the large connector. Check both these connections. My wiring colours will be the same as yours so I'll post some pics later and show you the correct power wire. You can then run a wire from the battery to it and then you will know for sure you have power at the switch. Can't be anything else as far as I can see. |

Here are the photo's. The indicator power wire is black, gray and green and leaves the indicator loom at the same place as the large yellow wire. See second picture.
It connects via a spade connector to the same color wire coming out of the loom from the stalk to the light switch about 8" before the back of the light switch. ![]() Check first if your getting power from the light switch side. If you are then the fault lies elsewhere. If you are not try running a separate power source the the indicator side and see if that cures it. Hope this helps. ![]() Hope this helps. Derek |
