McQueen drove a 915

Was musing about Steve McQueen this morning..... a buddy sent me a couple of McQueen Racing stickers from the Malibu Kitchen.

He died in 1980 at the age of 50, never had the opportunity to drive a G-50 transmission, I wonder what he'd have to say about that...

Anyway, a couple of, not so common pictures, of the King of Cool and his 911

With a young Derek Bell

That 911 is a '69, so it had a 901 tranny in it with the old style flywheel, clutch and PP.

Lol, I figured somebody would poke a hole in it.

Question, he had an early Turbo as well, 4 speed, is that considered a 915?

Not car related, but, we almost bought his last residence In Santa Paula.

His cars are always shown at:

The Porsche 915 in not the gearbox, but a full 4-seater that Porsche built in 1969. The 915 was a stretched 911, with a full back seat. The car never reached serial production. see link below:

McQueen drove a 917... this is a gear from David Donahue’s 917. See the resemblance to the 901 and 915 synchros? Same design.

Speaking of 917's, they had their share of transmission failures during races. And if anyone lets you drive one...
