Interior removal tips needed for my front seatbelt replacement project
I did some searches, but I could not find what I was looking for.
What is the right way to remove the rear interior side panel, so that I can replace the front seatbelt (retractor) ? So far: 1) front and rear seats out 2) Remove rear seat-back/parcel shelf 3) unbolt the upper seatbelt anchor from the door post What's next? 4) There is a trim cap on the side panels, looks to be held on with a couple of Phillips headed screw with special washers like the rear panel 5) what then......??? Are there hidden clips on the side panel ? More trim screws? Any pictures showing what's behind the panel holding it in? I really don't want to ruin 31 year old panels.

It's been quite a while since I did mine but I did not remove the seats. As I recall I just removed the little panels right below the window. There are or should be plastic covers covering the bolts between rear and front window. Pretty straight forward. Sorry I can't go into more detail. I would look but she is in storage. Took no more then a hour for both sides

You do not need to remove the seats. 1st remove the two philips screws you referred to, the panel top trim. Then loosen the rear shelf screws as the quarter panel you want to remove is pinched at the rear by the real shelf panel. It is not attached there but it is held in place by the rear shelf and after 31 years it make it easier if there is some play. Now, the quarter panel has a clip which holds it against the body, so the removal is to lightly force the leading edge of the panel from it's channel (this may require a little coaxing) and lift UP on the panel at the same time. Do not pull it toward the center of the car you will deform the clip. ONce one side is out it the other will of course be even easier. Good luck.

Mike here's the baclk of a 993 panel which I believe is the same setup as on you 911,
remove the top and door trim as well as the rear wall trim as you can see the is one clip to the rear, slide the whole assembly upwards, it may take a bit of force ![]()

Turns out the clip was already popped.
I looked at PET but it did not help, hence my post, but it was a good suggestion. For posterity, this is what it looks like: ![]() Easy to remove the three screws and pop the upper trim piece off. Once you do that, it's straightforward, as long as you remember the clip.

Bill you beat me to it! The 993 is different and yet very familiar.
Like they are part of some strange family....
