restoration numbers for 2.2

hi,
i know numbers matter, i don't know where to look for this information.. i did search and found the engine numbering sequence for porsche motors but no indication of build or casting dates etc.

i am hoping someone on the board can help me out. i have a 71t with the original motor and am loking for a spare motor to rebuild. i think i may have found one. this "new" core motor has a numerical stamp that is less than 600 "before" my original blocks stamp.

my question is would this block be close enough to the build of my car to still be considered "factory" correct....the information i have been able to find on the block numbering starts with 6114001 for US coupes as well as targas and states in sequence but not specific to month etc.

i am assuming it is close enough but wanted to ask the members for their thoughts. i want to keep it close...any insight would be appreciated.

thanks for your help, ben

Well the Redbook says.....71Ts have serial number 610001-6113475. ...583 of them, I 'assume' that maybe euro delivery.....

6114001-6118119 US, 6119001-6119190....sporto.....

911/03, 911/07, 911/06 engine types.

So to answer your questions as to month when it was built.....probably going to need the COA for the car that the engine went with......if you can. Prolly have to call or write PCNA.

joe bob,
when you get back from your cycling and have iced 'em down(lol) do you think you could post the page (or pm it to me) from the red book that has the numbers and dates. i cant find it and you info is different from my other source....numerically 600 before seems small enough but i am not sure..not even sure if there is engine numbering information avalible from porsche.
thanks for the help. ben

As long as the type # and year are correct, then it is out of the same build series and will be okay. So if it is type 911/07 and serial from 6114001 to 6118119 that is really all that matters if you need to replace one engine with another. I would keep the engine original to the car so that you can still have matching numbers later on.

As mentioned above, with a serial number that close, a matching type number stamped into the case will be the primary factor in maintaining "factory correct".
