What is Bosch 0 231 184 03 Dizzy

I just found a Bosch 0 231 184 003 dizzy and the box is marked 911 602 021 03. PET shows it to fit 74-77 911. I searched many threads and lots of discussion on the 184 001, 004, and 005 but can't seem to find much on the 003. Just wondering.

TIA

Thanks Dennis. I read this thread earlier and it doesn't really state what the 003 is. Some speculation but nothing documented and someone said that it had a 6500 rev limiter. The unit I found is new and has a 7300 limiter

Everything I can find indicates 74-77 2.7 litre. Maybe a California pollution model as one post mentioned.

FWIW - If I am reading the PET correctly, the 0 231 184 007 distributor was only used for ALL Japan and USA cars in 1977. The only non-sportomatic engine was the 911/85 in the US. RoninLB, you should have this engine and it should be a USA car and not strictly California. Just based on what I am seeing.

In 76 they break out California models from USA models.

Porsche84 - Is there a part number on your rotor? As you have seen, the 6500 RPM rotor is associated with the 911 602 021 03 (which is the only mention of that distributor in the PET)

I am stumped. Am I missing how you nailed it?

Bob

You are correct, the mystery was not solved. I misread the post by RoninLB in that I thought (my eyes and brain are not connected) he said that his car had dizzy 003. OK, my rotor is marked 1234332 206 and below that it says 7300. This unit is new in a box from a dealer (Florida not California) so I am assuming this all is correct. BTW, the casting has a 76 date on it.

Jerry,

According to the Bosch books, that is a '73 911S distributor.

old memory from reading Bruce Anderson in late 1990's before we used computers is that my stock dizzy was used in the whole US in at least 1977. Don't remember anything about foreign deliveries.

Calif vs 49 states
Calif had the vacuum retard hooked up and functioning [the curve sucks]
49 states had the vacuum hose hooked up, but plugged so the retard didn't function

I think the engine itself is same thermal reactor, pvc, smog pump model for whole US

Got it. Same number but different. :-)

Glad the mystery is solved.

I have one of these on my 77 Carrera 3.0.
Did you want to sell it at all?

If the 0231 184 003 is a replacement for the 1973S distributor, I would think it is fairly valuable. I just sold a 0231 184 004 RS distributor last month. I read this on the EarlyS Forum. Maybe some of the real distributor Guru's will clarify what year it is for.
