Torsion bars upgrade.
As I am going to change the aft torsion bars on my 86 Carrera from 25 mm to 26 mm (turbo bars) I have a question.
I want the hight of the car to stay simular also after the change and wonder if anyone has any experience how much I should reduce the angle of the torsion plates when fitted to the torsion bars in "dead" position (unloaded) with the 26 mm bars compared the 25 mm. If mounted in same position I would sespect the car to be higher as the torsion bars are stiffer. I know that this will be a try and fail exercise but I just want to have something to start with. Measure the angle of the spring plates with a protractor after they are disconnected from the trailing arms. This will give you some place to start when you are reassembling the suspension. Because you are not dramatically increasing the spring rates, the angle won't change much. If you go to larger T-bars, a good rule of thumb is a -3/4" degree change for each MM increase in T-Bar diameter because of the increase in spring rate. Also, center the adjusters on the spring plate before you put it back together. They are adjusted to the lowest setting from the factory, so you can only adjust the ride height up.
