Door differences!

Ok,
Might be stupid, but I was thinking about swapping my 1975 doors onto the 1984 Carrera. Upside is no more heavy electric window motors and general simplification. I guess the question is, will it work and if so how much weight will it save?
Thanks
Eric

Not much weight differences ! Both door sets, assuming they are the same usa or euro versions, weigh the same except for a couple lbs on the motors and a few lbs on the flag mirrors.
Note that both door sets will have the heavy (17lbs) side impact beams if both sets are usa version. It is pre 73 that has no side impact

also if you go forward with this, make sure the door shells came from the comparable model: Targa /cab to targa/cab or coupe to coupe

Next you have the hassle of fitting the door shells to the fender and jam gaps, color change, swapping trim and door locks. Not worth it imho

want to save a few lbs and gain some cool looks? Do a search here for vitaloni sebring mirror conversion. Gets rid of the flag mirror heads and lends a race look w/o having to weld holes shut on the later door shells and repaint

Someone here on this site actually weighted the entire power window mechanicsm versus the mechanical one - and the power one was slightly lighter.

If you truly want to save weight in your doors - go for full CF or FG replacements. Lots of warnings about a cage being needed, however.

Dave - is that 17 lb.s per door or for both of them together?

also, how did you determine the difference in wt.s?

Thx, Randy
