I was under the impression that '71 was the last year for the basket weave. If I'm wrong, maybe one of the experts will chime in.

probably no definitive answer here.
My 73T came with a basketweave dash insert that ran to the glove box. (it's an early 73 (#586) Bill K

No basketweave in the 72-73 cars. Even the grain of the standard vinyl changed. 69-71 is different from 72-73.

My 72 & 73 came with a flat surface vinyl/leather on the dash trim, door panels, rear side trim and the seats. Going on memory, basket weave stopped after the 71 model year, but not to say it may have been an option or in true Porsche fashion, may have had some left over material and put on some early 72s, but doubt they would have done so on a 73.
72 & 73 seats also had mat black wrinkle seat hardware. Unfortunately, my seats are in storage or I would post a spcific picture. This is all I can come up with at the moment. Hope it helps!

Assumed so since you didn't mention that you owned the car from new. If you bought the car brand new, I'd expect to see a deviation on your dealer invoice or an interior special wishes option. I'm sure you have pictures as well.
72/73 MY dash vinyl matched the door cards, back panels, package tray and the seats in color and texture. What do you have in the rest of your interior? The 72 MY interior changes are fairly set in stone even considering the chance you might have a ROW car. Rather than being intentionally vague, you could provide more detail?

sorry, the only picture is from after I removed the basketweave and replaced with grained vinyl to match the rest of the dash. If you look closely, you can see the replacement is not perfect.

Did you buy the car new? When did you replace the vinyl? I believe you also stated that the basket weave only ran to the glove box? So, you had two different types of vinyl (one grained and one basketweave) on the dash from the factory??? It's obvious that the seats and the steering wheel are not in original trim. I can't tell from your photo whether the rest of the interior is in the original state or not. I'm always interested in learning something new about these early cars. So, I'm going to stand by my assertion of what is indeed correct for the 72, 73MY interior. I hate seeing assumptions carried over and becoming fodder for those just getting into these machines.

Sorry Michael, I've got better things to do than go back and forth with a so-called, self-proclaimed expert who probably is right in most situations. What the car looks like now is not relevant to the original post, as the car has gone through many iterations in its life. I think the OP got the answer he was looking for.
Bye Have fun

![]() I also didn't realize that the simple answer of "Yes" or "No" to the question of you being the original owner of your car was that difficult. All that "back and forth" must be tiring.....
