which wheels will fit my '71 911T?

My '71 911T came with 15x5.5 fuchs, however, I'm pretty sure that it originally had 16" wheels on it, because the speedometer reads somewhat faster than I'm actually going.

I've seen several sets of fuchs for sale with 16x6 fronts and 16x7 rears. Will these fit on my car without hitting the fenders?

I don't believe 16-inch Fuchs were available in 1973, and Porsche speedometers are notoriously inaccurate.

However, 6x7x16 wheels should fit with up to 205's all around. Some guys get 225's to fit in back, but that may require some rolling of the inner fender lip.

Thats what I have 16x6x7"on my 69` which by the way your car did not come with 16" . My rear tires 225/50/16 did rub a little on the inner lip until I adjusted the rear camber more negative and replaced the rear torsion bars with 28mm hollows. No more rubbing now. Also note that every tire brand has variances in the actual width even though the #`s are the same. So which tires you choose will make or break the fit. Front tires 205/55/16 dont rub at all.

The 7's may or may not fit even with the 205's all around. I just did this, and needed to adjust the rear camber as well as roll the fenders.

Good luck.

Hi Kurt,

Just curious, can you spin those 205's on take off?

JimDog,

Tire size will affect the speedo reading. I believe the car originally came with 185/(70 or 72)-15. If you go to Interactive Tire Size at Early S Technical Data you can put in various tire sizes and see how they affect the speedo reading.

You can also use the gearing charts at Dr Timmins Instant G to calculate the effects of different tire sizes on various aspects such as MPH, RPM at xMPH etc.

I am using 205/60-15 on my 71 911T causing the speedo to read about 3% faster than actual road speed.
