Where is the strap that holds the bottle in the bracket? You need something more than the "miracle of friction" to hold that bottle in place, otherwise it becomes a missile in an accident. If you are thinking of mounting it to tunnel cover, think again. Our region (and others) requires that the extinguisher be securely mounted with bolts not screws. The tunnel cover is only held down by screws.

OBX fire extinguisher on ebay
I purchased one of the OBX fire extinguishers on ebay a few months ago. It turned out to be a nice piece. I was also curious about the size of the extinguisher prior to placing a bid on it. E-mailed seller with no response (I hate that!). Took my chances and placed min bid. Turned out to be the only bidder. It is a 2.5lb sized fire extinguisher. I mounted it on a Brey-Krause seat bracket. The bracket that comes with the extinguisher holds it very tightly. IMO, it would take a lot of force to knock the extinguisher loose from the mounting bracket. I had to modify the Brey-Krause bracket slightly so I could still adjust my driver's seat. I can't imagine why Brey-Krause didn't think of that? Also, the mounting holes on the fire extinguisher bracket do not line-up with the mounting holes on the Brey-Krause seat bracket. More modification! Hope this helps!! Let me know if you need more info on the extinguisher.

Ha, bargain parachutes, fire extinguishers, and discount surgery are some things that you might not want to mess with. Halon is without a doubt the best. Check out these puppies:

A subject I'm interested in since I just purchased a BK fire ex. mount for my car.
Chris, How should the fire ex. be mounted? Should it come with brackets or does the BK have it's own? Thanks,

For purposes of this discussion I'm going to call the bracket that comes with the extinguisher "the strap mount" and the BK bracket "an aftermarket bracket". The strap mount may be mounted to the car directly (with 6mm or 1/4" bolts and locking nuts). For example, my 2.5 Halon is bolted to the vertical panel in just front of the rear passenger side seat. I prefer the more secure "double strap mount" like OG Racing sells. If you want to avoid drilling holes in your car you can bolt the strap mount to an aftermarket bracket that in turn bolts between the seat rails and the seat or floor. BK makes excellent ones. You may find these mounts interfere with seat movement or your passenger's ankles. Tip: A piece of masking tape over the end of the strap buckle will keep things from hooking the buckle and opening it by accident. (I wouldn't use anything stronger than masking tape.) Sorry for babbling, -Chris |

OBX fire extinguisher on ebay
The OBX fire extinguisher would definately be better than no fire extinguisher at all!
I hope we all never need to use one, especially on our Porsche's!!

I removed my OBX fire extinguisher from the car this weekend for cleaning/polishing prior to a car show. Decided to read the "fine print" on the label. I discovered: 1) it is not DOT approved, and 2) it is intended for display purposes only.
Screwed again!

Haven't seen anyone mention the type of chemical or gas the OBX models use. You'd think that they would at least mention it in their ebay ads or on their website... very suspect.
I got my halon unit from OG Racing. Another place is www.h3r.com
