RUF wheels on '86 Carrera
What size (width) RUF wheels will fit on unmodified '86 Carrera body? I would like to fit the widest available, for aesthetic reasons (deeper lip).
Anyone know of a good source for these wheels? What's a fair price? thanks MIK |

17*7 and 17*9.5.
I have pics of my car with these. I also have an additional brand new set (never used still in original boxes). I don't know how to post pics though.

Juan,
Is it possible for you to weigh the RUF wheels, perhaps get on abathroom scale with one? Unless you already know the weight. In another thread someone mentioned that these were heavy. I like the look of these and would buy a set if they are not too heavy. Thanx

I don't keep a scale at home (psicological!) however, I know that they are heavier than the Fuchs. I'll look around for a reference to this and get back here.

Hmmm, I'll go look (sound of running feet)...8's and 9's on my '86.
They are heavy. On my not very accurate bathroom scale a 9x17 mounted with Yoko A520 (255's ) tires weighs 44 lbs. For comparison, one of my 9x17 Fikses with Kumho's (V700 track tire) weighs 33lbs. The tires are some of the difference but still, very heavy. -Chris |

The difference is the mostly the wheels, they are renowened for being heavy. I cant find lit on it but 25 lbs sounds about right (I know, you'll now ask if that is the fronts or rears; i don't know). Not having a bath scale keeps my sanity!!!
Serioulsy, if you are looking for light wheels don't get Ruf/Speedlines. If you are looking for a known quality, awesome looks and Ruf pizzaz! get the Ruf.

The ruf wheels are very nice. Too bad they don't make them anymore, at least for these models. Would make a good set of street wheels because of the weight.

Here's my car with 17" Ruf wheels. 8" (215's) in the front and 9" (245's) in the rear. No modifications, no rubbing.

As far as I know these wheels only came in three sizes: 8x17, 9x17 and 10x17.

ErVikongo;
It seems a shame to have such a nice set of wheels in a box!!! Are you thinking of getting rid of them? If so, lit me know. I assume they have the 15R 23F offset? |

I just completed a complete refinishing job (myself) on an older set of the 7.5 and 9" RUF wheels, and weighed each on a very accurate digital scale. The fronts weighed 23.5 lbs., and the rears 24.2 lbs. With Pirelli P-Zeros mounted, they feel like boat anchors but look pretty good.

Nope it won't fit, I tried it already
17x10s Ruf won't fit inside the RS flares nor SC. We've tried it and for sure, the widest you can Ruf wheel you can stuff inside those flares are 17x9s. Its what I got in this 74 Carrera and its tucked inside those factory flares too.
I was talking ot one of the guys from So. Cal who tells me that he just got done putting some 16x10s on the rears and 16x9s in the front of his RS clone. Lots of work like relocating the oil lines and swapping the stock trailing arms. I sure would like to see it and asked him to send me some pics. I'll post it here if and when I do get it. The 17x10 were meant for the CTR flare which is 1"wider than a Carrera/SC flare. They will not fit.
Email me if interested in the wheels.
