88 911 stereo issue

I realize this is not a car stereo forum but I thought I would take a shot.
I have an 88 porsche 930 I bought it with the stereo.
It has a deck, with an amp in the hood that powers 2 speakers in each door and 2 subwoofers under the seats. (total 80s bad ass)

Anyway it worked quite well until about a week ago when I was listening at normal levels and then the music stopped and the speaker on the passenger side door started popping. It continued to pop until I pulled the face off the deck (removal face). Anyway now when I start up the car it works fine for about 5 minutes or so and then does the same thing.

Any thoughts on it?

See if your amp has gone into an overheat protection mode first. Make sure your ground cable from the amp is solid and corrosion free at both the amp and the body.

I had a similar issue with my stereo in my Audi TT. Water had gotten down in the door and corroded the crossover. It's a possibility if your system has crossovers, they may be the culprit.

Interesting as it was a rainy day that it started. I did check the lights on the amp and the wires and all look brandy new. So it is probably something in the door??

Also would it make sense that my amp has a built in cross over?

Dissconect each speaker from the amp, then see if the amp turns on or if its going into protection mode. Use a multimeter to see if the speaker lines aren't shorting out. the lines should show between 2-4 ohms on your multi meter. You can always hook up one speaker at a time to see if the amp shuts down or it may play fine telling you which speakers work and which ones are causing you the problem. Thats a good place to start, let us know....

Ok so I basically disconnected the amp as I was getting the thud sound from the door speakers, and the subs underneath the seats. So it must be the amp??

I do still have sound through the back speakers that must not even be connected with the amp?
