Aluminum Pedals: Pro's? Con's? Pictures of yours..

Thinking about getting aluminum pedals because of an article I saw in excellence magazine. It makes the interior look more modern and the only ones I have seen that I like are from bydesign and they say "turbo" on them.

Can you guys please posts pros and cons of these pedals, what kind did you buy. Opinions etc. Pictures are always a good thing to help make descisions.

Thanks in Advance..

Easy to install. Come in black as well.

Good luck.

Some one read my mind.

I was also thinking of posting a similiar question.

Also, how hard is it to install the dead pedal in the earlier cars?

Thanks

I am not sure aluminium pedals are the best idea overall. if u have wet feet, i have noticed that your feet seem to slide on them a little bit, even with rubber 'anti slip spots' on them.
they do look good, so if u dont mind your feet slinding around on the pedals when they are wet then by all means go for it

What do you mean by looking more modern? This is a "style" that goes back to the '80"s...

The clutch and brake pedal are Momo. The accelerator pedal I made up myself with a friend who has a machine shop. These particular Momo items require no drilling but are not sold everywhere because of safety concerns with them coming loose when in use. Important to ensure bolts are tight. They are easy enough to fit.
In use I think they feel a little better but not everyone notices an improvement. I've not had any problem with slipperiness in the wet, they are slightly oversized so if you have a wide foot it might be a concern, however I've often driven in heavy hiking boots and motorcycle boots without any problems. A friend has alloy pedals with a "spike" finish on a jeep used for off-road racing, these are absolutely sensational for grip and use but destroy shoe soles.

I have had the FVD pedals for a year or so and really love them.
I was having a problem with my clutch pedal rubber pad comming off, tried two new rubber pads, both kept comming off, I do not have that problem anymore !. You do have to watch what footwear you use while driving, especially when wet conditions are present. There is some slippage when wet,it really hasn't been a problem, but you do notice it.

I put in a set from AJ-USA about a year ago.

Pedals:
http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/inventory/view_product?prod_id=0000000091&part_number=AJR%20423%20113

Dead pedal:
http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/inventory/view_product?prod_id=0000000280&part_number=AJR%20505%20825%2002B

Ditto the care needed with wet shoe soles -- they'll slip, even on the pedals with the rubber inserts.

Installation was a breeze for pedals/dead pedal -- a few holes to drill and assemble.

Let me know if you'd like pics posted.

Cheers!

C.

RJ,
Wow, barefoot gas pedal, takes me back to my hot rodding days!
Glass packs, Cragar Mags, Mickey Thomson Tires, 8-tracks, (I even rember a 4 track, hell I even remember someone who had a machine that played 45s screwed under the dash). Saturday morning going down to the House of Chrome to buy more junk.
Remember those rediculous lift kits?

RJ,

I recently added an aluminum pedal set from AJ/USA. As usual, (for AJ/USA) the quality is excellent and they look great.

Traction is fine, no problem at all. Heel-toeing is easier too (without the super-wide "wing accelerator pedal" look).

Sorry, haven't developed the pix yet, but you should be able to see them on the AJ/USA site.

Cheers!

I went with the Vosstek "touring" set from Betterbodies. Accelerator pedal has an inward curvature that facilitiates foot rolling (vs heel-toe) for rev matching. The brake and clutch pedals have found a home in the bottom drawer of my tool box. I prefer the stock rubber pads.

The gas pedal looks great and is easy to install. I don't much care for the oversized wing on the "wings" pedal since I prefer foot rolling. The Vosstek pedal looks and feels great.

I've had them for a couple years and like them. No slippage problems that I've noticed. They blend well with the Momo wheel and brushed stainless thresholds.

I have a Wings Engineering gas pedal, OMP clutch and brake (chucked the gas pedal that came with the set), and an AJ-USA dead pedal.

RJ,

Here are mine (Sparco) I love them. I would recommend some with some form of rubber for grip when your shoes are wet. These were a little to mount (had to drill), but they won't come off like the original rubber covers.

The reason

There is a reason that Porsches (World's best engineers) elected to put plasic pedals in your car. I have tried aluminum in my 911, 914, and currently have them in my 944. The only reason I have them at all is that I haven't gotten around to taking them off. Spend your money on something worthwhile, like a day at the races.

The driver's seat is a Momo Rookie (current model is the Momo Start), and the passenger side is a Corbeau Forza II.

The Momo is surprisingly comfortable for an entry level seat. It is a bit narrow, so it's not for everyone.

The Forza II is a tube frame seat, but still very comfortsble. It's the widest seat they make and one of the widest available across the board. You never know what size passenger you'll have.

They were both very affordable. I got the Momo at LTB Motorsport and the Corbeau from Sports Car Accessories. LTB might still sell them on eBay, I saved $20 or so doing it that way.

Here's the unaffordable version, for when you've just got to have leather.

Aluminum pedals (from AJ-USA) just barely visible.
