Scissors Lift
Since I recently lost my 30'x30' garage with 11' ceilings, I have no room for the hydralic Rotary 7000 lb lift that has served me well over the last 10 years. (sob!)
So, my new garage has 8' ceilings and is 2 1/2 cars (for an Issetta, I presume....). I was lamenting my plight until seeing the recent post with the compact 48" rise scissors lift prominently featured during a 3.6 transplant. Kismet perhaps? Eureka! A solution we can all live with (even the wife). So, I hurried off to Snap-On.com and found to my horror that the prices were dear. No matter, I have bought many tools used and I'm happy for it. A quick look on ebay brought no joy, but google provided several manufacturers for me to consider. Mid-rise is what I want with this ceiling, and the lower the drive over, the better. No matter what, I would expect to be making some ramps for this with two low 911's to service! I'm looking at: Mohawk HR6 http://www.mowhawklifts.com Bend-Pak MD-6XP http://www.bendpak.com American Automotive Equipment SM6000 http://www.americanautomotiveequipment.com/page831668.htm Anyone with experience in this matter? Suggestions? Best price sources? http://www.ontool.com/store/category/1320 OnTool carries the Mowhawk and the Bend-Pak at what appear to be decent prices, and $100 and free shipping respectively. I just started looking this afternoon, so I have lots to learn! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best Chris (with 3.6 transplant looming on the horizon) |

What are you doing with your old lift?

Old lift is sold (I think)
Ha! I should have known I would get asked that question. The old lift is sold ($1000) to a friend of a friend. If that doesn't come through, I'll post it here.

Chris,
Congrats on your imminent 3.6 transplant! I was following your engine sourcing thread. I would have done the same thing if I had heard about it. You will not believe how much power your car will have when you're done. I got my car back yesterday after 3 weeks separation and its a real scream. Here's another shot of the scissor lift in action. The lift is sold by Snap-on but is manufactured by someone else. I can try and get the manufacturer for you if you want. The lift wasn't in the online snap on catalog. It will be cheaper by sourcing direct. It was purchased by my wrench about a year ago and it works really well. Regards, Rick

Please Do!
If you could get that Manu info, I would certainly appreciate it!
Yeah, I'm looking forward to having the 3.6 in the engine compartment instead of at the airport Of course, you are going all the way by installing in an early car - yeah! Best -Chris |

Van Diemen RF-95
Formula Continental/2000 (take your pick...). Was my SCCA Ride until earlier this year when I bought a different house. In fact, none of the cars in that picture are mine any longer, despite having all been mine earlier this year...
No complaints, mind you.... |

It's difficult to work under scissor lifts. With an 8' Ceiling, you can still get a 4-post lift in there. They make low-height ones just for that purpose.
I know that www.backyardbuddy.com has one (I think)... -Wayne

Almost but...
Thanks Wayne, I appreciate the response. I'm coming from an assymetric lift, so one that require the wheels still be on the car would drive me crazy.
I did see some sort of adapter that lifted the body off the floor but the ramplike nature of this thing may not make it. Really, I want what I already had but no-way, Jose (I think..) |

My engine builder has one that I lust over - it is probably under US$2k (he said about NZ$3800, so about US$1800). I don't know the brand, but can find out. It was specifically selected as it can go high enough to drop a 911 engine onto a suitable working height dolly. It is also portable when folded flat, and can either be electrically or air operated (the actual lifting is hydraulic). I wish I knew more...

I've used the Snapon. Very nice unit, fits under most lowered 911s and is very easy to use, move around etc.. Makes most 911 jobs relatively painless.

This single post unit is on my gotta-have list, but I haven't found one in NA:
http://www.maywoodgarageequipment.co.uk/single_post_lift.html For some reason there are a number of this style availabel in Europe. I like it becaus it could also be used to store a car. Bob D.
