Thanks for all the great input on this 17" project. Let me try and summarize everyone's requests:
SPECS Standard 911 (SC/Carrera body) offsets in 7.5" and 8.5" and/or 8" and 9" SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 930: 9 and 11", +Agreed SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 8" & 9", standard 911 offsets ASSUME PRE 930? 9s and 10s or 11s that fit an SC or carrera converted to turbo flares would be nice. - no spacers SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? Also, no spacers for a real turbo SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 7,8,9,10, and 11" widths with the same offsets that are offered for the Braid BZ 15" wheels (including the +15 offset for the 9" wheel). 7's and 8's in factory offsets. Could do 7.5 and 8.5 as well. SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? sc wide body with no spacers SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 7" and 9's standard offsets SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 9" and 11", SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 7's...8's..9's SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? turbo offsets SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 8" ET30 +2 others CURRENTLY OFFER +10, WHY 20MM DIFFERENCE? 9.5" ET19 +2 others NOT -10? 7, 9, and 11's. That covers SC/Carrera and turbos SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 911SC Widebody....non turbo! 9 + 11" no spacer offsets!! SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? 7, 9, and 11 inch widths SO SAME OFFSETS AS CURRENT 15” AND 16”? (upper case comments are mine) WIDTH VOTES CURRENT OFFSET REQUESTED OFFFSET 7 6 +23 7.5 2 N/A 8 8 +10 +30 (3) 8.5 2 N/A 9 11 -3 +15 (3) 9.5 3 N/A +19 (3) 10 2 -15 10.5 0 N/A 11 8 -27 Sorry about the lack of table format. Based on the number of requests I don't think we will be able to offer .5" increment widths. Even the 10" looks weak. I'm assuming our current 15" & 16" offsets work on most 911s and equate with people's general requests though we have had a few sales of +23 8" in the past which suggests there may be a need for an additional offset there or maybe a change. Right now we can do custom offsets on most of the 15" & 16" versions provided the requested offset does not deviate too much from the original. Of course it would be better to make the standard offset the one that peoiple want rather then have the majority ordering custom offsets. I assume it's a difference between fronts and rears. Would anyone need 8" or 9" rears. f not we could make them front suitable offsets. Same for 7" I guess.Any insight on this? Here's what I propose so far: WIDTH OFFSET 7 +23 8 +10 9 -3 11 -27 if there is eough interest we could offer the 8 in +30 and the 9 in +15 as standard too I guess. FINISH Polished lip, center in black or silver or bronze or..... any colour you want as long as its black RSR frosted finish w/ black or optional red/blue/custom centers +2 others Standard polished lip with black center, completely unfinished (at a possible lower price) or "RSR frosted" +1, in RSR finish. RSR finish would be OK, but I'd really love to see the same pattern in clear anodized, not frosted, a la the classic deep sixes. classic finish and the finishes Braid offers on it's current Fuch replica (again, upper case comments are mine) All of the above are currently possible with 15" & 16" so I would propose keeping the finish options the same. If you want anything else we can do it for a surcharge. So please let me know what you think as I need to make a strong case to the factory before they'll invest thousands of Euros in 17" production.

here's my 2cents again
15/15/17/18 doesn't change the necessary ET at all except that the shorter the tire diameter the more error can be accommodated On SC/Carrera body cars, the max width for any wheel is going to be 8 in front and 9.5 in back, 8 front ET25 to 30 fits the best, the higher the ET the less lip issue/mods are needed, On mine I've used 7x15 ET23.3 w/ 205/50 tires at extremely low ride height and had to trim the lips, 7x16 ET23.3 w/ 205/55 needed all the clearance I got from the previous set, 8 x18 ET25 w/ 235/40 tires needed yet more lip work to clear, somewhat higher ET would have cleared much better, a buddy uses 8x18 ET30 w/ 245/35 and has no issues. 8x15ET10.6 w/ 225/50 tires at extremely low height were swimming in the wheel well, 9x16ET15 w/ 245/45 x16 were swimming in the wheel well, 9.5 ET19 w/ 275/40 x17 tires are perfectly centered w/ just mm of clearance on both sides of the tires after a little lip massage and trim of the trailing arm bolt and relocating the oil line. 9.5 x17 ET19 w/ 255/40 tires have plenty of room, a buddy runs 9.5x18 w/ 275/35 and has no issues though i think that the 'cheater' R6 at 255/35 would be a better choice just because it is a little lower Some guys like to run spacers on the stock 9x16ET15 rears, so it appears that down to ET would be ok w/ that size for a more aggressive fit

I'd also like to see either some 17's in 7"R (preferably just less BS so that spacers aren't needed for non R cars) offset for the rear of narrow cars as tire selection continues to shrink.
Again, I know this is a niche market, but maybe the VW tuners could add some volume to sales here.

For the 11" wheels I don't suggest making the offset so extreme. I suggest a 0 offset. The -27 works ok for 15" tires but not so much with 17" tires. There is a decent market for 7" wheels to fit early cars including VW. +49. The 8" +30 makes a lot of sense for front wheels. Just my $0.02. If these go in production I'll be strongly considering a set or two in RSR finish. Here's a good list of 17" sizes and offsets: WIDTH OFFSET 7 +49, +30, +23 8 +30, +10, +55 9 +15, -3, +55 9.5 +19, -10 10 0 11 0, -27 Here's a narrowed down list which is the list that I feel should be offered: WIDTH OFFSET 7 +30, +49 8 +30 9 +15 9.5 +19 11 0 Bare bones choices: WIDTH OFFSET 7 +49 --- front and rear early 911, 914, early VW 8 +30 --- front 911, front 911 widebody, front 930, rear 911, 914, 944 9.5 +19 --- rear 911, front 911 widebody, front 930, rear 930, 944 11 0 --- rear 911 widebody, rear 930 Last edited by PcarPhil; 09-13-2012 at 05:32 AM.. |

I'm not sure there's a big enough market but perhaps some of the proposed specs will be close enough that +55 can be offered as an option.

It's a proprietory proccess but they wont tell me how they do it. As far as I can tell the center and back rim are one forged piece and the front rim is a spun shell. Regardless the end result is light and strong.

Not sure if these are the same as widebody optioned NA cars

Here are some 930 sizes and offsets from the list posted above. The 8, 9 +15, and 10" sizes should be an easy fit for any 930. The 9 -3, 9.5, and 11" wheels would be a more involved fitment on a 930. WIDTH OFFSET 7 +23 --- front 8 +30, +10 --- front 9 +15, -3 --- front, rear 9.5 +19, -10 --- front, rear 10 0 --- rear 11 0 --- rear *Spacer sizes (stock, none, smaller than stock) and tire sizes will vary depending on usage!* |

These are the Braid BZ 15 on my car that I had refinished in RSR style by Classic Road and Track in Melbourne.
I'm very very happy with the wheels and refinishing but it would have been a lot easier to just buy them from Braid in this exact RSR finish :-) ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Al
