245/45-16 street tire?

Has anyone found a street tire this size lately?

Looking for street tires for my 1986 Turbo Look.
It has stock 16x9 rear wheels.
All I could find were sticky R rated tires with no tread.
Prefer not to try a 50 series rear tire again...
Any suggestions? run 17s?
thanks.

That size is scarce in "street" tires but they are out there. A 265/45/16 by Kumho is what a lot of the turbo fellas are running as of late. It's not the factory size but it really works well.

265/45/16's, a gift from the tire gods!

Do a search as someone posted a source for that size(245/45/16) recently but I can't recall his user name.

Toyo made a T1R 245/45/16 street tire they since discontinued. I called a few tire chains and finally found a store that had them in stock. Took 4-5 tries.
Kuhmo makes a Ecsta XS in a 265/45/16 rear and 225/50/16 fronts the turbo guys are running on 7 & 9 x 16's. Look on the turbo forum for more info.

thanks for the Tire Easy link.
They do have a couple choices, while Tire Rack has none.

I used to have the Toyo T1R's on mine. They do not make them anymore. That is why I ended up going with the Nexen tires. When I researched new tires in that size the Nexen appeared to be the most tire for the buck.Good luck.

It seems the Toyo T1R's are discontinued in all but a few 16 inch sizes which are not appropriate for Porsches ...
Really is a shame as i had some 225/50/16 and 245/45/16's a few years back and they were great tires !
My son's Civic has had the Nexen tires installed for a couple years now without any issues, although i find the compound to be on the hard side ...

Cheers !

Why are the 245/45-16s going away these days? Is the demand really that low? There are a lot of R-compound tires available in that size and I would think the market for those would be a lot smaller than for street tires?

I'm having this same problem now. Need to replace the Yokohamas on my 7s and 9s Fuchs. Yokohama quit making the 245/45/16 size too, as did most everyone else. One local tire shop said they could get the Nexens, which are priced pretty cheap. But I'm still looking around. It seems the tire makers have moved on to 17 and 18 inch wheels and don't see much of a market in 16s anymore, I guess.

Thanks for the easy-tire.com link.

I passed on a good deal purchasing a set of Fuchs 7 and 8 x 16 for this very reason. No tires.

when running 7&8's i thought you could just use the same 205/55 & 225/50's as with the 6&7's. it's the 9's where the problems come in.
am i off on on this one?

I don't have many miles on my 205/55 and 245/45/16 Nexen 3000 tires prior to disassembling the car for paint and engine work, but initial impressions during aggresive back-road running were very good and the price on these tires is very reasonable.

maxxis

Maxxis makes a 245/45/16 MA-Z1 Victra, and a 245/50/16 MA-Z4s A/S tire. I've run the Z4S on my SC for two years and they have served me well, however, I don't track my car.

I just called Kumho. While they are not 'discontinued' they just aren't making any due to lack of demand.

Pretty much 'Fuch off' in any sales language.
