Suddenly tight steering

Driving last night steering got very tight, lots of effort to turn wheel.

Plan to check it out tomorrow, any guesses as the most likely cause?

The first and easiest thing to check is tire pressure.

Check the u-joints in the steering column in the trunk, they can suddenly bind up as well.

There is also a needle bearing inside a rubber coupling apparently.

Pin for the steering lock can also bind on the column and cause stiff steering. But that'd probably be immediately obvious as you went to drive away (was to me).
