rear screen demister/defoggers & power mirrors

Car: 1983 porsche sc

Hi Guys,

My rear screen demister is not working, checked wiring at connectors and cleaned them, aware that my remote electric mirror are also not working ...could both be on the same circuit?

For the electric mirrors I 'm hearing a single "click" and nothing else when controlled from the joy stick, I have a feeling the workshop has either not plugged the electric sockets or the electric sockets have been caked with paint overspray.. neverthless I need to check them.

Anyway wondering if the electric door mirrors and the rear screen demister is linked, both were working before the car went in for body repairs

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,

For the "demister" or for us across the pond "defogger", check the fuse in the engine bay, make sure it is not spinning too freely. Better yet, remove clean/polish the holder. If checks out, then take a DVM ( digital volt meter ) and check to see if power is present at the contact films of the demister strips.

As for the mirror control, the shop most likely dislodged the negative ground at the connector of failed to seat it in properly/fully. Remove the window trim and the toggle and check the connector socket to see if any of the terminals have pushed out or deformed, correct and put back together carefully, it should work. The "CLICK" tells me you have power but bad ground.

No there are not related, if it was on the same circuit, you would not hear a click on the mirror toggle.

Cheers,

Jim
