I was wondering if anyone had a wiring schematic for a headlight relay upgrade. I'm looking to put higher wattage bulbs in my car. Thanks.

key on power to 30, ground to 85, headlight fuse powers the 86 terminal instead of going to the headlights, 87 to headlights.

Would it be better to power the relay (30) right from the battery (with a fuse), to keep the voltage drop across the wiring less?
I've seen that recommended in other places. ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro MY PELICAN GALLERY |

Bill,
That is what I tell people to do, because, on early cars, there is a vacant 6 mm tapped hole on the factory bronze battery positive connector. I use one 25 Amp circuit breaker and conductor per bulb and relay, but there are undoubtedly other ways to do it successfully, and safely. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler |

I also took power directly from the battery, and I mounted the relays just below the fuse panel. Like Warren's the system is fused and this configuration results in the shortest path.

if you're trying to improve the voltage to something, battery power to the 30 terminal is the way to go. if you're just trying to relay something to save the switch, then "key on" power works fine.
