RonWatch 2002

A crazy New York City fire fighter has been sighted in Washington State. Crazy like a fox, that is. I think I spoke for all of us when I said we are jealous. The man is taking a 911 all around our great nation, wherever it pleases him to travel, over a several week time period. In the meantime, we are mowing our lawns and going to work like lemmings.

A few stats. 32 days, 11.336 miles. That's an average of more than 350 miles per day. Some days he stays put, but refuses to sleep indoors. One day he covered 100 miles.

No citations. The V-1 works well, but around curves with Smokey moving in the opposite direction, the warning comes just before the sighting.

Ron reports that his cylinder heat temp gauge give him good information about his engine's operation. For example, taking a 3% grade at 3200 rpm, heat temps rise immediately. Downshifting, or even just speeding up to 3400 rpm, returns his head temps to normal, on that same grade.

After chatting with locals at Little AleInn, and driving past Area 54, Ron experienced mysterious ignition trouble. Go figure. Darren at Pelican Parts has the old parts and Permatune will evaluate. Warren thinks Permatune will give those parts a bill of good health. I probably should learn more about this need for a ground at the CDI unit.

Ron has a pic of his car, under a Welcome to Idaho sign, with snow falling. He was thrilled to see wild horses in Nevada, and was excited to find cougar tracks in his camp. I sent him to US 101 down the edge of Oregon coast. IMHO, that is one of the outstanding stretches of highway in our nation.

Good luck, Ron. We all wish we were there.

The Alien burger with cheese is my pick when passing through Rachel. What did our traveler go for? If he has some time and no place in particuar to be he could explore the western part of the......... http://www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org/ I am in the planning stages of doing this myself.

Go Ron.

Wish I were on the road too

Thanks for the report Superman. Nice to know that Cindy's BBQ chicken fueled him enough to make it up there. I may have goofed. I sent the old parts directly to Pematune for analysis...so far, no response. Good on you for sending him down 101! This tells me I'll be seeing him in a day or two. Guess I'd better go check out our local Wally world, see if they still have the 5 quart jugs of mobil one in stock. The Donkin Garage and quicklube is ready & waiting to get him set up for his dash to la-la land...Gave my car an oil change & bottom wash yesterday, so the floor jack & jackstands are available...

Tyson and I got to meet Ron at Thunderhill. A one-of-a-kind guy and very gracious. It was a pleasure to meet him.

11:00 PM PDT, 2 June 2002. Ron should be safely snuggled in his sleeping bag as I type. He arrived back here around 5:30. We should see him again tomorrow. Rough plans are for him to spend some time in the Mt. Hood area, then back here in time to tour up to Gary Emory's campout/swap meet. So guys...Ron spotted back in Orygun...he seems to be doing fine. G'night, all...Paul (Zzzzzz)
