71 911E 2.2 Targa
Can anyone tell me a fair price for a 71 911E 2.2 Targa? Body is staight, little to no rust. The interior is toast. Car starts right up and seemed to be fine. Had a new gas tank, fuel pump, and brakes. I know it's difficult to come with a price for sight unseen, but it's another project car for the winter, and the next winter, and the ect.....
By the way, I finished my first project this past year (75 911s), thanks for all help everyone, especially Jack, the wiring digagram worked perfect for the wing. Last edited by MikeRJ; 06-02-2002 at 04:57 AM.. |

I couldn't give you a value for the E without knowing more, but I have to say your car looks great! Very clean, tastefully done.

Based on your description, I'd price the car at $5000-$6000, according to the "Old Cars Price Guide."

Valuation
Keith Martin's book has the 69 to 71 911E targa in a range from $10K to 13.5K. This is for a #2 condition car, which in his definition is a really clean and complete car, but short of a concours car (that's #1, right?)..
So, I would say that a car like this, if you got fixed up as good as you are probably going to get it, short of a complete tear-down kind of restoration; then at that time it would be worth between 10K and 13.5K dollars USA. Depending on other factors (MFI still there? any cool options? etc) you could make a shopping list of things you have to do and subtract them from the range above, and there's your good buying price.. Just thinking out loud, YMMV, of course/. BTW, Keith's book says only 935 911E targas for 69-71, vs 5,027 Coupes in the E flavor for thise 3 years. Does that agree with anyone else's numbers? That would make the E rarer than the S. Must be a misprint, right>?? Good Shopping

Buy them, sell them

MikeRJ,
You've inspired me! The hunt is back on for a 964 decklid assembly. The rear bumper with bumperettes removed is fresh and new, but I'm so used to middle-year cars (and SCs and 3.2s) having them that it looks a little foreign to me. At first I didn't like it, but now it's got me thinking.

Emanuel,
I agree with your analysis of the valuation question. It most likely won't add up. BUT one should be aware of that going in, especially if buying a NON S early car, which will likely NOT go up in valuation all that much over time... That way when you are upside down by 20K or so in a 15K car, you won't be surprised....maybe. PS. I am upside down in both of my 911s, not that unhappy about it.
