Is email notification working?

Some people don't appear to be receiving emails from the BBS server. I am, but then again, my mail server is 24 inches away from this BBS server...

Wayne,

E-mail notification stopped working for me when you moved the BBS over to its dedicated server.

Two people swear they sent me emails but I didnt get them.

One sent me an email that took 14 hours to get to me (according to his version of when he sent it and the time on the receipt of post)

I posted from another email address (Hotmail) to my 'fanatic' email and no problems encountered.

If someone sends a file that's too big, do I get a notice of this? I assume the sender does?!

Cheers
Mark

Wayne after moving your bbs I have had many problems I get sometimes the notifications must of the time not, after posting a responce I often have to fully log out and re-enter the side before i could just hit back, and must of the time is telling me that im NOT a registraded menber, other than that doing good.oh yeap my spell check never works either and god knows i need it!

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 12:14 PM

Mine doesn't work either Wayne.......It hasn't worked for about a month now......

Wayne 962 06-04-2002 12:32 PM

Ok, I just switched mail servers. Does it work now?

-Wayne

Wayne 962 06-04-2002 12:32 PM

test

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 12:52 PM

Mine's still not working Wayne.......You really need to get this fixed quickly (please), as I'm having serious inbox withdrawls!!! :)

Wayne 962 06-04-2002 12:59 PM

As for hitting "back" sounds like a cookies / security problem, not related to the email notification...

SeaDweller, I don't quite understand what the problem is? How are you testing the function?

-Wayne

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 01:06 PM

I don't know of a way to "test" it unfortunately, other than to wait for a reply to my latest post, which was posted after you changed servers.

I've checked and unchecked it on various posts, and that didn't work out, so I don't know how else to test it.

One thing I can say (I don't know if this will help or not) is that before it stopped working completely, I would get notifications two to three days after a post was made, rather than the usual immediate notification. Then they came sporadically, then finally, it stopped working completely.

Wayne ,Email working like a champ! thanksSmileWavy

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 01:15 PM

Wayne, Sherwood Lee just responded to my post, but no e-mail notification was given. Maybe only my system is affected, but I don't know what the problem could be??????

Could my registration on the site somehow be screwed up?

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 01:19 PM

By the way, I checked my profile, and everything is correct. I also have e-mail notification engaged as default.

Wayne 962 06-04-2002 01:26 PM

I don't think that you understand completely how it works. If you hit email notification on a post, it will send you when someone replied to that post, and that's it (I believe). no more emails after that. You also have to make sure that the small box when you hit reply is checked. It just worked for this post, and I will click it again right now.

If you start a topic, then it will send you an email for each and every reply...

I think that there might be something up with your email system? Makes no sense whatsoever that it would work with some people and not others...

-Wayne

SeaDweller 06-04-2002 01:33 PM

Agreed, I don't know why it would work on some, and not on others. I'm not getting ANY e-mail's whatsoever from the Pelican BBS, so even follow-ups to the posts I start are not generating a notification to me.

I make sure that e-mail notification is checked in every post, and also verified that this is set by default in my profile. My profile also shows a list of posts that I'm "subscribed" to, but I haven't received a single notification in at least a month.

Is there any way for you to delete my profile so I can start a new one with the same username and password? Maybe setting up a new registration would fix this.......

stormcrow 06-04-2002 01:55 PM

Not.

Stopped working when you changed the system over.

I just posted a new thread (Targa top adjustment) and checked email notification. Assuming (someone) responds, I can say whether or not I'm getting emails from the bbs.
