I know I have S brakes on the front of my 1973 911e.
What were the options for the rears? I have an alloy and one steel??? The difference is due to having to replace the caliper prior to really knowing about the car. Now I am looking to replace the steel rear caliper with an alloy, but can not find an "s" rear?

Jon,
There are no alloy calipers for the rear! All '69 thru '89 911's use the Ate 'M' caliper. Are you sure the 'alloy' one is not just a new replacement that has bright, shiny cadmium plating?

The one I replaced it was an "M" it is now rust colored.
The other has the same finish as my front "S" calipers.

Jon,
Does a magnet stick to it? Can you post a pic? Same 'Finish' is pretty hard to comprehend ... as no other caliper on the planet looks like an 'S' Ate caliper ... not even close! A painted 'M' caliper that matched the 'S' caliper shade from the factory still wouldn't look the same to me, but others might disagree!

There is no way an S or A caliper which have 3.5" OC ears will bolt on to a rear M mount with 3" OC mounts. The magnet test will differentiate an aluminum S from an iron A or M.
