911 spring plate ? yes another.
when lowering the rear suspension cant i just take spring plate off and index on the torsion bar without pulling the torsion bar out of chassis to get the proper height sdjustment is this case lowering the car, ive never done the lowering procedure before but have done lots of reading on the issue and i dont see why i would have to pull bar out of chassis unless to get the very fine chassis tune that thetorsion BAR was designed for anyway thanks for your time al mass, here looking for any other mid year 911s in the area meet in northampton some nite for coffee have a great day

If you don't remove the bar, you can certainly not get the finite adjustment youmay be searching for......do it once, do it right.

The problem is that if you only move the outer spline you only get very large movements. I do not know what year you have but the older 911's outer end should have 44 splines versus 40 splines on the inner. If you only move the outer you change the angle by 8 deg 10 min. This is about 2 inches per spline.( if my calculations are correct). So any lowing between multiples of 2" need the torsion bar rotated also. Hope this helps.

Next time I have mine apart I'm going to look at removing the end of the spring plate torsion bar cap to allow the bar to come out, and then fabricating something to hold the bar in, maybe machining a groove to hold a snap ring. I think elephant or somebody makes a spring plate with a removable end cap...
I notice on the OP's car there are no side valance panels, this makes the job a whole lot easier; on my TL I have to remove the rubber trim and valance panel to get the bars out. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 339k miles |
