993 search

My search for a 993 is off. My money for the car is tied up in my home projects. As with every 911 owner who has sold one once, I fully intend to buy another. With a smaller budget of say 15k to 20k which years would be best and why? I have no prefernce to older or newer as I like them all. But for they money to be spent which year would be most reliable and worth the cost of maintence and upgrades. My 74 was a blast and also a very solid runner. One of the reasons for the sale was I have owned three red sports cars and will try to avoid buying another in that same color.

A 550 would definetly be nice. If I could find one that was built right, for the right price I would do it. The guy who had the 993 I wanted now has a 550 rep but he wants 30k (he's dreaming) and some dummy will eventually have to have it. I love those 550's.

If you got a C2, you would be too close to the 993 and would probably wish you had saved your nickels and got the 993.

Everybody is different, but if I were going to spent 20K on a new Porsche it would probably be a '72 or '73 RS conversion with a 3.6 transplant. (OK, maybe 20K wouldn't get me there)

I am sure, however, that 20K will get you into the SCWDP as a major player.

Well, that would get you a great condition SC. Here in SoCal, 20K can also buy you a very clean '84-'86 Carrera, or a bit rougher '87-'89 (I looked at one today in fact).

But seeing as though you have a Boxster, why not go the opposite direction and look for an early car. $15-20K should get you a *really* nice T, or a very clean E.

Porsche Crest Early or bust...

I agree with Nostat. My choices for that price range would be an immaculate `72-`73 T, a fairly nice `72-`73 S, or a very nice `74-`75 EURO Carrera 2.7.
