Alternator housing

How much an alternator housing cost in parts and labor? My Carrera's housing is cracked and I understand it's difficult to get a used one as porsche stopped making them. I guess this is for an aluminum one..

Thanks

about an hour labor. used prices vary, so maybe you'll get lucky. $150 woulld be ballpark. problem is, most are cracked.

If it were me, I'd go with the aftermarket aluminum replacement. Given the age of the cars, and the propensity for the housings to crack, even if you got a good one today, there's no guarantee it wouldn't crack tomorrow.

At one time there were fitment issues with the Vertex aftermarket unit. I don't know if those have been resolved. YMMV.

HTH.

I just ordered a Vertex last week and installed it last night. The coating was a little bit rough, so I sanded and repainted it to match the fan, but the fitment was fine.

911vintage: If you need a hand doing the install to save $$ on labor, I can help you out. PM me if interested.

Hi 911Vintage, I also replaced mine like Olmother did with a Vertex model and like him you have to do some adjustments to it to make it fit perfectly. Doing it yourself is not that difficult, and you can have it done in one day. Here is a link to the work I did so you can see the results:

The hardest part is getting it adjusted by sanding it, after that is not all of that bad. Mine came a bit rough so it took me a bit of time, however that may not be the same for everyone. Good luck!
