Bogus Basin '02

Well I thought I'd stop by and post an update on this weekends Bogus Basin Hill climb.
It was a blast... an absolute blast. The rush you get when you run that hill is uncomparable. Maybe it's because of the inherant fear factor (The pucker factor is present) but my whole body was shaking for about 5 minutes after I climbed out of the car.

In '00 my first run time was 2:46. My best was something like 2:32.

This year my first was 2:25 and my second run/best was 2:18.
That is really good for me. My third run was fudged because coming onto the straight after turn 4, I missed my shift. Went into 1st instead of 3rd... probably doing about 50 mph or so.
Scared the living hell out of me...
It completely ruined my last run. I slowed down and listened for any noises... it definately ruined my concentration.
Somehow, i still managed to run a 2:19... but it would have been much much faster.
So, that put a dampner on the whole thing... I was so worried that I had bent a valve.
Sunday, I pulled the valve covers and removed the plugs.
Maybe it was my imagination but I kept thinking I was hearing a ticking from the right bank after the over rev. It wasn't stumbling, missing, or blowing smoke... but I was still worried.
I used my handy dandy bore scope to look into each of the bores and inpect each piston crown for damage.
I couldn't see any... also none of the rocker arms were broke... or any springs.
I readjusted all of the valves... and that noise went away.
Motor is still running nicely abiet its close call with catastrophy.

All in all a perfect weekend.
I have tons of photos to post, but only brought one disk with me this morning... so there will be more to come.

I sure hope everyone had a wonderful weekend...

Wayne Rourkes 993...

Ernie Monroes beautiful SC coupe...
Here's Erin on the rally...

More to come...

Lee,

Your car is looking great! The muffler looks nice. Bet you had a blast and I wouldn't mind betting that the SC took care of that 993 on the hillclimb...

That's a really nice color... nice female unit also...

Thumbs up, Lee...and after all this, you didn't find time to run a rack or two? BTW, I really hope I introduced you to a fun recreational activity, not a vice....

Gate Shift is DAMN RIGHT, Paul!

I've already started looking around.

I do have more pictures Eric, I just haven't bothered to bring them to work because there didn't seem to be any interest.
I also have a short mpeg. of me rounding turn three if anyone wants to host it, I'll send it to them.

Erin happened to be recording me as I hit the straight-away after turn three... you can hear me topping out in 2nd gear then hitting first instead of third... just a short aweful bark... "VrOOOOm!".

So far so good any way.

If you guys want... I'll go home tonight and find the other pictures.

I'll bring the tape to the Roundup for those who will be attending.

Oh, yes... I'm very familiar with the old 280MM A-howitzer.
We actually got to look at one of the now-inerted projectiles in school.

The biggest problem was the fact that the weapon couldn't fire the projo. far enought to keep the gun crews out of danger.

Another fairly unknown was the Armys Back pack nuke. Engineers could strap a nuke on their back and drop it off in the location to be leveled... only problem was...again...the max. time on the det. didn't allow the poor sap to get far enough away from it before the Kaboom took place.

Sorry for the delay, here are some more pictures.

Here's me and another fellow SC targa owner right before our runs...

My third run... would have been a good one... i got through turn five when I got red flagged for a false start... they kept having timing equipment problems...hopefull that will be fixed next year.

This car belonged in a museum... but it was fast... I mean real fast... loud as piss and was running times much faster than me.

This is Kitty and her 993 named "Blumax." She is an incredibly fast driver who was turning 2:06s all morning long.

This car was also very fast... it is a 2.7 with carrera deco, but still quick, the driver was a real funny guy... too bad I don't have him on tape spinning on the last turn...talk about your fast recoveries!!

Here is the badboy... this was the fastest car on the hill. This gent is nugging the hill record in this highly modified 356... his fastest time was a low 2:03. Which is Scary Fast!!!
And I must also add that the car is SCWDP powered... yup, he's got a 3.0L stuffed in there...
Neat car...

I also have a short video clip of me turning corner #3 that I've sent to NoStatic so when he gets that loaded, I'll post it here too!

Yeah, Lee, some of those old swing-axle cars can be REAL FAST, especially when running on flat-six power and 7-inch Fuchs ... as I guess you all found out!
