RUF / CTR cap safe for the street
I have been thinking about doing a RUF / CTR cap for a while now. You guys have provided some great information, but I keep coming back to this thought:
Is this a bad idea on a car driven on the street? Is there any front-end collision protection with the cap? I know that the valance leaves the stock bumpers (and the weight) but think I am leaning more toward the caps. Thanks for your thoughts guys! Bud Gordon |

Bud, I am also considering these and although I cannot speak from experience, common sense would indicate that there is basically NO protection forward of pan with it. They do sell a sort of "nerf-bar" that hides behind cap, but even that is just for parking protection. There is definitely a trade-off for the good looks and weight-loss with these.

I only installed the valance and, thus, kept the factory bumper. You could use the protection plus, the additional weight in the front is not bad for balance (to me anyway).
Same thing with the spare, you want to keep it there since it is an integral part of the crash structure (or so I read on some book).

I used the nerf bars. They are hidden under the f/g and bolt into the original bumper shock mounts. As speeder pointed out they are for parking lot protection only, but the f/g is cheap relative to oem so who cares? Never had a prob in many yrs of f/g bumper use.
