Post Auxiliary electric cooling fans

Has anyone explored the idea of installing electric cooling fans to assist the intake of air thru the engine grill/condensor coil? Quite a few aftermarket fans out there, twin fan set-up would fit nicely. Little or no benefit? Maybe the additional fans would actually impede the flow if the engine fan moves more air.

I have no personal experience- but heard through the grape vine that the fans do help the AC while you are in stop and go traffic. If I remember correctly there were no big advantages while in motion.

We had a discussion about airflow moved by the fan last year ... the rated 1500 liters/sec at 6000 rpm came to around 2000 cfm ... seems to me that anything in the way of the grille/louvers would just impede air intake, IHMO.

Now, a couple of fans boosting air from NACA ducts on the fender flare leading edge or top area ... via 4" dryer vent hose, and through the fender, directly into engine compartment, that might be of some real assistance in sluggish traffic, or waiting in line at the bank! How to get the hose past the wheels and tires is a detail to be worked out ...

If anything, I'd guess they'd reduce your airflow above 3000 rpm or so.

The main engine fan is a real workhorse once it's going. Little electric units couldn't add much, in terms of velocity or volume. They'd just get in the way.

This is fairly extreme for a street car, but for track cars, you can mount a small NACA duct in each rear side window (Lexan), then use 3 or 4" duct hose into the engine comparment. Many track 911s use this duct setup leading to a large air filter setup in the back seat feeding the engine air intake.

NACA ducts on the bodywork may not be legal in many racing organizations.

An electric fan will be most effective for cooling the A/C condenser, but primarily at low vehicle speeds when air flow is minimal. You could even devise a timing/relay circuit to reverse fan direction when the engine is OFF to help circulate hot air out of the engine compartment. If the fan and motor fits, I don't see too much restriction to air flow, even if it's not ON.
