How to tell if oil in heat exchanger?

smoking like the devil when engine warm. Might have overfilled before 100 mile day yesterday. After some fast corners, and warm engine started to smoke quite a bit. Read posts and thinking heat exchanger? how can I tell? Then what?
Thanks

check the oil level as 1/2 up the stick warm and running, idling, on level ground. If too full, suction it out to correct measurement. Drive it at night on country roads to burn it off...:=)
