My front cooler setup is a failure!
My front bumper cooler is a failure!
It was 105 degrees yesterday, and when driving a mix of freeway and surface streets, my oil temp rocketed to ~200! This is unsufferable! |
Better add a Cool Collar ... before you grenade that expensive engine!
|
You don't say what kind of front cooler you have. I installed one of the little airscoops that Wayne sells--goes in place of the bumper reflector on the right side--and it seems to work great. '83 SC, 28-tube cooler in the fenderwell.

Ya, what cooler are you running? 200 degrees in 105 heat is fine. My car gets up to 240 on the track in 95 degrees ambient when I am beating on it. That is with a cooler in the nose in one in the front fender. One the road/freeway is stays near 180-190. How about Jack's car with the twin coolers?

i second the OK @ 200°. that's really good in fact, on a 105° day.
|
That is terrible Thom. All the way up to 200 and only on the street.
You know, this means you may see 210 one day... ... surely you can build it bigger again ;) Make it across the whole front of the car  (edit) I too am being sarcastic and am assuming that Thom is actually quite pleased with himself. 105F deg is something lik 37C, which is really frickin hot. |
And what other kinds of fish did you catch today?
Pleez add ;) ;) ;) if you're fishin'. At least no one asked if you were using water or antifreeze. |
Hello? Did anyone miss the fact that he said it was 105 degrees? Thermo laws dictate that the amount of cooling decreases as the temperature gradient decreases. 80 to 105 is a big 25 degree increase, and a big drop in the difference between the engine temperature and ambient air temperature.
Sounds like your oil cooler is working fine to me... -Wayne |
My post was meant to be tongue in cheek - I definitely reeled in a couple! I'm quite happy with the temps.
I'm still hemmin' about getting the Elephant Lines, as mine have some flat spots. I see those flat spots and see extra cooling capacity. |
Those Elaphant lines do look tasty! I must say i was way impressed when I saw them in person. I told Chuck, I almost wish, I needed new lines.
|
I agree with Warren, I think that you really need to get a cool collar to get the temp down to a safe 199
