Removing the front valence?

I want to remove the accordions on my car so that I could clean and detail it all and put it back together. I was able to get the driver's side off without too much drama (still a bit a of challenge), but on the passenger side there is a bracket in place that will make it impossible...see photo. I assume that this has to do with the fender oil cooler. Thus, I don't think I can take this apart without taking off the valance.

Can someone describe where all the bolts are? Or better, anyone have photos of the valance/bumper removed? I've seen millions of photos like that over the years, can't find any today.

Finally, I'd like to remove (maybe) the rubber strip on the front bumper. How does that come off? I assume there's some bolts behind the bumper?

Thanks

This can be done! I just spent the morning doing it and it can be done....with patience. Try to avoid removing the valence as it is tough to re-install!

oh goodie! i can contribute here...i found that is actually much easier to go ahead and remove the whole front bumper with the valence still attached...then further disassemble if desired.

The opposite order for reinstall. The valence hardware probably needs replacement by this time anyway...or your can just clean it up and rattle can it.

It can be done in the order mentioned above, but you'll need alot of patience and a ratcheting box end wrench for one or more bolts on that passenger side.

hold out for pics, but you can start by sliding the rubber strip on the very front of the car to either side to remove it. behind it are large hex bolts where the impact shocks are attached, this is what holds the bumper on, along with 4 small screws on each side where the valence meets the fender.

I ended up taking the bumper off and leaving the valence in place using this thread:

'88 911 Bumper Removal

Will have my own photos to post later.
