What can I remove from this picture

There is an emmissions fan on the bottom left that can be removed in this picture. What else needs to be removed?

You mean pump, right?

How about the plumbing and nozzles in your exhaust system? You will need bolts/pugs to replace the nozzles.

Air injection/smog pump ... like I said, there are six injectors and associated plumbing!

And make sure to not destroy anything and save all parts. They are worth big bucks to someone who needs them to pass emissions test in many states. People in CA. and other places buy the cars not even realizing that pump is missing, then get the bad news when they try to register car.

Speeder is right. SAVE THE PARTS. They're llike savings bonds. The longer you keep them the more valuable they get. Particularly out here. I pity the poor guys that buy out of state cars or get transfered out here and discover they need to spend major bucks on the parts to pass smog.

You can remove the pump and bracket and block the litttle inlet that goes to the "AIR injectors right at the sheet metal.

I don't bother to block mine as I put the pump back on every 2 years for smog inspection.

Razor, You might want to find out from someone in the know whether air pump is really much of a HP-robber, w/o belt attached I would not think so, but I don't know the answer for sure. Unfortunately, the best thing to remove from a HP and weight-loss angle is the thing in the right-hand side of picture, the A/C. But then it starts to really stink inside of car in the summer, especially in Houston.

That's an extremely busy looking engine bay. Like the other guys said, I'd put the air pump and associated bits in the garage then consider backdating the engine shroud to a early one. By doing this you can loose the two big air hoses and that silly big fan and motor that probalby doesn't go anyway. The setup is intended to push air through the heat exchanges to the cabin by switching on when the heater conrol levers are pulled. The earlier setup is meant to work beter also. The more wieght you can loose on this end of the car the beter.

raz,

The smog laws just got tougher in Texas this year! What makes you think you won't need the smog pump in Houston? It IS one of the target areas for tougher inspections!

If the car is over 25 years old, it doesn't have to pass emissions. Is this not true for Texas?

The answer to that would be; 1) your car is not over 25yrs. old, and, 2) I would check with the authorities in your state before removing smog-pump. It is almost certainly not affecting performance w/ belt missing. In CA. it is '73M.Y. and older exempt, then rolling 30yr. exemption, ie. a 1978 car will be exempt in the year 2008. Good luck, and if you are new to Porsches or the car hobbie, you are smart to ask around a little before removing and discarding parts.

Here's a link of an exploded diagram of the entire air injection system. I used 914 brake caliper plugs in place of the injectors.
