Mines just a weekend putt putt, I use my sunroof all the time and it works perfect and has never (knock on wood) leaked. My A/C is a joke, it may come out one day.....
Of course its also Guards Red with a tail.......an elitists nightmare!!!

Until the a/c broke in my 944 it was the coldest a/c I have ever felt. Think deep freeze in a restaurant. The a/c in my 911 was nothing like it. Think fan blowing across an ice cube. Just one cube. In fact I'm not sure it even works any longer, if its too hot, I just dont drive it.

I live in SC so I know heat and humidty too. My car is red over black. I converted the car from R12 and it was empty of coolant when I purchased it. With a flush and fill of 134, it now works fine if I am moving. But if I park it somewhere without shade, the car will never be truly cool the rest of the day. On hot days (86 degrees plus) I will drive my BMW and think of the fall days ahead when I can comfortably fly low with with the windows and sunroof open!

I know this only because the radiator relay in my 944 died recently, and I had to turn off the A/C and roll down the windows. It sucked. Fortunately PP got a new relay to me quickly.

I grew up in Alabama so I know where you're coming from. :D

There are plenty of threads on the A/C in the older cars. The summary is this. The A/C never worked that well to begin with. It might knock a bead of sweat off your forehead. Couple that with the fact that it is R12 based so it is expensive to recharge. If you convert to R134a then the efficiency gets even worse. You also have to replace the A/C lines with barrier hoses or the R134a will leak out. Check out Griffith's system and you will see what has to change to get functional A/C. It can set you back a grand or two in parts and labor (and maybe more depending on if you can do the work or not).

I've got a triple back SC with no working A/C and it can be intolerable in August. A/C is on my projects list and I'll be calling Griffith's one day.

I can see where if you live in certain places A/C might be optional, but not in the south!

Another reason that a sunroof-delete is a positive...The seal around my sunroof has disintegrated over time & needs to be replaced. However, there is a problem with the cables that operate my sunroof, & it will not open/close properly. As a result, I haven't used the sunroof for a couple years (it is too small to be of much value anyway).

It is a pretty labor-intensive job (read, very expensive) to fix the cables & replace the seal. I wouldn't be facing this if my car didn't have a sunroof.
