You can just replace the CDI unit with an MSD6 unit for less money!

Rebuild, plug and play. MSD, you will need to do some work; permatune, well that's another story, some love, some hate. If it was me, I would rebuild.

I have an 83sc 3.0L and purchased the MSD6al! It has a limiter that you can change! I have mine set at 6K and it runs flawlessly! I paid $199 for mine!

It does involve cutting the plug off and redoing the wiring a bit but it is a very simple install!

Permadoom, last unit I would use.

MY 3.0 had a rev limiter in the rotor.

A rebuilt Bosch is comparable in price to an MSD or Permacrap.

Just my noobie experience.

When I was searching for a rebuilt it was priced closer to $450, thats why I went with the MSD!

Newer versions have the adjustable rev limiter built in.

New Permatune is more resiliant than old Permatune based on what Lonnie from P-Tune says in this forum. The old ones were great if you had nothing wrong in your system. Gremlins would kill them though.

One of the shop owners in this forum flat out told me to buy the MSD as an insurance policy. The favorable price was an added bonus.

That was what I also heard!! After trying to find one for under $300, and not being able to, I figured I could by two MSD's and still be ahead $$$$!
