Can the anodizing on the door and window trim be restored?
I have seen posts on painting them black, but is there a way to restore the chrome look? This is on a 73. |

I had mine polished and reanodised. I took them to a metal polisher first, then to a company which only does anodising. I had to choose clear shiny anodising, but could choose a bunch of colours in clear or matt finish (anyone for red!).
It was surprisingly cheap... about US$120 for the polishing and US$4 per piece to anodise. I had the front/rear window trim and the front door frames done. The $4 applied to the biggest piece (a big bit of door window frame) and the smallest (the small trim pieces between the front windscreen trims). Weird. I suspect the prices are only applicable here in NZ though. ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S (in bits) 1969 911T |

I can probably have a picture by the end of the week.
It looks just like new, BUT (and this is a big but) the anodising is nothing more than protection so the end result is only as good as the polishing. In my case, there were quite a few fairly deep gouges, so the finish is only good. Does that make sense??? The picture won't show an awful lot. For a better example of reanodising etc, I'm gonna post about 10 pics in the steps to refinishing my Fuchs later today. I had them matt anodised (to look like factory early wheels) and they really look good, except that, once again, two were in pretty poor condition beforehand, and the polishing didn't remove all the damage. The condition of the part before anodising is vital - just chant this like a mantra.
