windshield sizing help
I am looking to replace my windshield on the 78sc. (rock damage from a GREAT weekend drive. Anyways, i understand that I can get the seal from a '90, that doesn't have the trim, and it shouold work fine.
Is there a size difference in the glass from 1978 to 1990? Thanks in advance. Craig |

You can't order a 90 seal and an SC glass. Both seal and glass have to match. FWIW I put an SC glass in with a matching SC seal but ommited the trim. Had the glass installer put some sealant behind it and it holds pretty well and I find it's a lot quieter w/o the trim. Wait till you look through the new glass....like a new car!

Thanks Joe. I like your idea. I thought I heard that youo could put the '90 glass and seal in an earlier car. The thought of having a new piece of glass to look through instead of this 34 year old one...WooHoo!!

Couple of good threads on this if you search. As already mentioned you need to match the glass to the seal. 911/964/993. The flat pinchweld flange that runs along the interior of the window opening is larger on the 964 and larger still on the 933. So if you install 964 glass and seal on an earlier 911 it works but the flange doesn't completely fill it's slot on the seal.

I tried 993 seals and a 993 windshield in an 86 and it did not work.
There was insufficient overlap between the seal and the glass to get a reliable bond. Others have done it but it did not work for me. The installer said that glass dims can vary by manufacturer. He called around but was unable to find a larger piece of glass so we bagged it.

I have a 964 windshield and seal installed in my 87 Carrera, works just fine!
As a point of interest, the 1989 Carrera coupe, had the same windshield and seal as the 1989 964 C4, the beginning of the 964 series of cars! JT
