Help diagnose my problem please...
I have a 1970 911E - 103K miles. Recently had transmission rebulit, new clutch installed and related components. Shifts perfectly now. Prior to this work being done I had a general loss to power that just appeared one morning ( as well as horrid shifting or better yet - grinding). It felt as if something was holding me back...So I also replaced distributor cap and reltated parts, & spark plugs along with the transmission work. I am now experiencing the following: Still loss to power but doesn't seem as pronounced. Also.....
Shift into first OK. First into Second - at the point that a depress the clutch my RPM's drop to 0 and then quickly (usually) rise to around 12K. Every now and then I stall out if they hang at 0 for too long. 2nd to 3rd and on are OK. Downshift all OK except 3rd to 2nd where I have the same drop to 0 RPM (and occasional stall out), followed by a relatively quick rise to 12K. Seems that if the RPM's are already above 3500, there isn't enough time for the RPM's to go down all the way to 0. Additionally, when I "punch" the throttle there is a decided delay in accleration, but if I press the gas slowly - no problem. I did find that I am missing the bushing or sleeve that resides under the car at the linkage point and might be referred to as the throttle linkage coupler - though I'm not sure. Without this piece there is a bit of play from the point that the peddle is pressed and the acceleration kicks in. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

Sounds like you need to check and rebuild your throttle linkage; it appears to be dragging and holding. There are the front pedal bushings, three soft plastic (almost rubber) bushings in the tunnel which the rod sides in, two bushings on each of the two rear bell cranks (one crank is on the driver's side of transmission and one is on the top front of the engine on the driver's side), and the many rod end sockets. In addition, there are return springs and the rubber isolating element at the back end of the tunnel rod which may warrant replacing for the sake of the reliability given the vintage of the car. Pelican sells most of these parts. Cheers, Jim

Jim:
I'll check out all the connections and associated bushings. Thanks very much for the reply.
