No More Toyo Proxes 4. How about Kumho?
I liked the Toyo Proxes4 for my 1980SC. They were about $100 each - had decent life to them - seemed to work well on SoCal roads for a daily driver.
I have PLENTY of life left on the fronts but the rears are gone. Gotta get tires for the rears this week -size 225-50-16 What are good value options? Kumho? Any other recommendations? |

I love my Kumho Ecsta XS. Search around here, lots about them especially from the turbo guys.

I'm definitely not a fan of mis-matched tires front & rear on these cars. Can really screw with the handling. If no Toyo dealers down there have any still sitting on the shelf so that you could buy one last pair and run out all four together, I'd recommend replacing all four with whatever new tire you decide on.

I run Kumho ASXs on all the cars through three seasons. They are reasonably grippy, have decent treadwear, are quiet, priced well, and are predictable in the weather conditions they see. That is, when it's raining or the roadway is wet, they do a good job.

I love my Kumho's. Good tire for the money. sticky at right temp and they break away with some warning.

I was thinking about the Hankook's since they are a great deal for the $$ but the question I have is how do they handle when it is below 40 degrees out in the wet?
Got caught in the snow the other year and the Kumho's were great.

I've had several sets of Hankook's in my experience they get loud as they age. Also had several sets of Kumhos, decent tires for the money but not the best available.
I have Potenza RE11s on my Targa, they are excellent tires.

I went from the Toyo T1-R's to the Falken FK-452
I had to order rears first and a couple of months later, the fronts. Ran Toyo front and Falken rears for about 6 weeks, no problems at all. Could not really tell the difference even when I did put the Falkens on the front. |

I like Kumhos, had several sets - run them on my 911 (72, no tire burner) - recently put Ecstas on my wife's car - she loves them, nice ride, quiet - pretty good rating for cold / snow too. Shame about the Proxes, run STs on my Jeep (which is a tire burner!)

This is not good news for those of us with 15 rims.
