What's a reasonable rim runout limit?
I just got a Starrett dial indicator and, since the rear of the 930 is on jack stands anyway, decided to try it out on my rear rims. I placed the gauge plunger out as far as i could on the rim near the tire
The RH rim varied from 0 to -.015 and then to +.005. So a total swing of .020. The LH side was better; it went from zero to -.012 and back. So total of .012. I intend to measure the fronts too, but I am interested in what the spec is. I understand that I am measuring total "installed runout" (my words) and that the observed runout might not be all rim related. What's the outside limit I should be looking for? When is it noticeable in a vibration or wobble?
