Car won't start after engine R&R...

This past Saturday we had an engine re-install party at Marcesq's house. Once we got the clutch installed and tranny mated back to the engine, we were on our way to a quick re-install. When we thought all was done, I went to fire her up and, well ... no dice.

When I turned the key all the way to crank the motor, all I could hear was the fule pump kicking on. It sounds to me like the starter is not getting any juice, since it does nothing when I turn the key. What might we have neglected to connect or connected incorrectly? All I can think of of is the starter. Thanks.

Either the starter or the transmission ground strap would be my first guess.

Check main power cable to starter and small connector to starter; both are on solenoid portion of starter. Also, check body to tranny groundstrap (passenger side of tranny up by the front tranny support) and 14 pin connector on driver's side of engine compartment. Also (but not related to starter), did you reconnect the reverse light switch on the front of the tranny and the speedometer sender wires in the tunnel? Cheers, Jim

I did reconnect the tranny ground strap (or I think Doug E actually did it). I did check that. I did not reconnect the wires in the tunnel yet. I just wanted to hear the engine. I still haven't reinstalled or torqued all the cv flange bolts either. I'll check that 14 pin connector and we'll have a look at the starter connections. Thanks.

Richard,

I could be mistaken but I thought I saw the 14-pin connector re-connected when the engine was back in. Do you have a wiring diagram? I'll be glad to help after work one night later this week.

Regards,
